We could not meet you last week due to my health problem, sorry for the same. We discussed a lot about factory rules and further we will continue with the same till the portion is over. We were discussing about the emergency exits; continuing with the same we will discuss the specification etc. of the exit doors required to be provided in a factory environment to meet the fire emergency

(m)     Theunitofexitwidthusedtomeasurecapacityofanyexitshallbe50cm.A clearwidthof25cm.shallbecounted asanadditional halfunit.Clearwidthof lessthan25cm.,shallnotbecountedforexitwidth.
 
(n)      Occupantsperunitwidthshallbefiftyforstairsandseventy-fivefordoors.
 
(o)      Fordeterminingtheexitsrequired,theoccupantloadshallbereckonedonthe basisofactualnumberofoccupants withinanyfloorareaortensquare metres perperson,whicheverismore.
 
(p)      Thereshallnotbelessthantwoexitsserving everyfloor areaaboveandbelowthe groundfloor,andatleastoneofthemshallbeaninternalenclosedstairway.
 
(q)      Everybuildingorstructureusedforstorageonly,and everysectionthereof consideredseparately,shallhaveaccesstoatleastoneexitsoarrangedand locatedasprovidetoasuitablemeansofescapeforanypersonemployedtherein, andinanysuchroomwhereinmorethantenpersonsmaybenormallypresent,at leasttwoseparatemeansofexitshallbeavailable,asremotefromeachotheras practicable.
 
(r)      Everystorageareashallhaveaccesstoatleastonemeansofexitwhichcanbe readilyopened.
 
(s)      Everyexitdoorwayshallopenintoanenclosedstairway,ahorizontalexitona corridororpassagewayprovidingcontinuousandprotectedmeansof egress.
 
(t)      Noexit doorwayshallbeless thanone hundredcm. inwidth.Doorwaysshallbenot lessthantwohundredcm.inheight.
 
(u)      Exitdoorwaysshallopenoutwards,thatis,awayfromtheroombutshallnot obstruct thetravelalonganyexit.Nodoorwhenopened, shallreducetherequired widthofstairway orlandingtolessthanninetycm.Overheadorslidingdoorsshall notbeinstalledforthispurpose.
 
(v)      Anexitdoorshallnotopenimmediatelyupona flightofstairs.Alandingatleast1.5 mx1.5minsizeshallbeprovidedinthestairway ateachdoorway.Thelevelof landingshallbethesameas thatof thefloorwhichitserves.
 
 
(w)     Theexitdoorwaysshallbeopenablefromthesidewhichtheyservewithoutthe useofa key.
 
(x)      Exitcorridorsandpassagewaysshallbeofawidthnotlessthantheaggregate requiredwidthofexitdoorways leadingfromthereinthedirectionortraveltothe exterior.
(y)      Wherestairwaysdischargethroughcorridorsandpassageways,theheightofthe corridorsandpassagewaysshallnotbelessthan2.4metres.
 
(z)      Astaircaseshallnotbearrangedaroundaliftshaftunlessthelatteristotally enclosedby amaterialhavingafireresistanceratingnotlowerthanthat of thetype of constructionsoftheformer.
 
(aa)    Hollowcombustibleconstructionshallnotbepermitted.
 
(bb)    Theminimumwidthof aninternalstaircaseshallbeonehundredcm.
 
(cc)    Theminimumwidthoftreadswithoutnosingshallbetwenty-fivecm.,foran internalstaircase.Thetreadsshallbeconstructed andmaintainedinamanner to preventslipping.
 
(dd)    Themaximumheightofarisershallbenineteencm.andthenumber ofrisersshall belimitedtotwelveperflight.
 
(ee)    Handrailsshallbeprovidedwithaminimumheightof onehundredcentimetresand shallbefirmlysupported.
 
(ff)     Theuseofspiralstaircaseshallbelimitedtolowoccupantloadandtoabuildingof heightof ninemetres,unlesstheyareconnectedtoplatformssuchasbalconiesand terracestoallowescapestopause.Aspiralstaircase shallbenotlessthanthree hundredcentimetresindiameterandhaveadequateheadroom.
 
(gg)    Thewidthofahorizontalexitshallbesameas fortheexitdoorways.
(hh)    Thehorizontalexitshallbe equippedwithatleastonefiredoorof selfclosingtype. (ii)          Thefloorareaontheoppositeorrefugesideofahorizontalexitshallbesufficient
toaccommodate occupantsofthefloorareasserved,allowingnotlessthan0.3 square metreperperson.Therefugeareashallbeprovidedwithexitsadequate to meettherequirementsofthissub-rule.Atleastoneoftheexitsshallleaddirectly totheexteriororstreet.
 
(jj)     Wherethereisdifferenceinlevelbetweenconnectedareasforhorizontalexit, rampsnotmorethanone ineighthslopeshallbeprovided forthispurposesteps shallnotbeused.
 
(kk)    Doorsinhorizontalexitsshallbeopenableatall times.
 
 
(11)    Rampswithaslopeof not morethanonein tenmaybesubstitutedfor therequirementsof staircase.For allslopesexceedingonein tenand whereverthe use issuch astoinvolvedangerof slipping,therampshallbesurfacedwithnon-slippingmaterial.
 
(Mm) Inanybuildingnotprovidedwithautomaticfirealarmamanualfirealarmsystem
 
Shallbeprovidedifthetotalcapacityofthebuildingisoverfivehundredpersons,or ifmore thantwenty-fivepersonsareemployed aboveorbelow thegroundfloor.No manualfirealarmshallberequired inone-storey buildingswheretheentireareais undividedandall partsthereofareclearlyvisibletoall occupants.
Here we come to an end about the provision of exits and doors ect for the fire emergency in a factory environment. In our next topic we will discuss about the fire safety equipment and scaling of the same.
